Living The National Council on Independent Living is a membership organization that advances the independent living philosophy and advocates for the human rights of, and services for, people with disabilities to further their full integration and participation in society. Council The New York State Independent Living Council, Inc. is made up of representatives, a majority of whom have disabilities, from around the State, who are appointed by the Board of Regents. It is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, consumer controlled organization which monitors the federally funded Independent Living Centers in New York State, promotes the independent living philosophy statewide, and provides support and technical assistance to the entire network of Independent Living Centers (ILC) in New York State which consists of 37 community-based, not-for-profit organizations run by and for people with disabilities. ILRU - Independent Living Resource Utilization
The ILRU (Independent Living Research Utilization) program is a national center for information, training, research, and technical assistance in independent living. Its goal is to expand the body of knowledge in independent living and to improve utilization of results of research programs and demonstration projects in this field. It is a program of TIRR (The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research), a nationally recognized medical rehabilitation facility for persons with disabilities. Services for Individuals with Disabilities To promote educational equity and excellence for students with disabilities while ensuring that they receive the rights and protection to which they are entitled; assure appropriate continuity between the child and adult services systems; and provide the highest quality vocational rehabilitation and independent living services to all eligible persons as quickly as those services are required to enable them to work and live independent, self-directed lives. Social Security Employment Connection Central New York DSO Family and individual support; psychological, social work and nursing services; housing; respite; educational advocacy; service coordination; consultation; and referrals for individuals of any age who are developmentally disabled. The agency evaluates an individual and recommends a course of action best suited to his/her particular needs. Central NY DSO either provides the necessary services itself or assists the individuals and his/her families to find them, and then follows up to make certain that these services have been obtained. Provides rehabilitation services to individuals who are legally blind and reside in New York State. CBVH programs include: Training for Employment; Business Enterprise Program; Programs for Older Adults and programs for Children. Services are coordinated by counselors and children's consultants located in eight regional offices. Blind Work Association, Inc.
