LOCAL ADVOCACY Cortland County and the City of Cortland administer local services and facilities and can answer question and modify services to meet ADA and other regulations.  Citizens have a responsibility to inform themselves about local affairs and communicate and advocate when changes are needed.

General Voter Information:

Help America Vote Act - The federal Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA) is intended to ensure equal access to the voting process for all citizens, including citizens with disabilities.

New York State Board of Elections - Information on the election process, registration forms, connections to local Boards of Elections
File a Voter Discrimination Complaint Form if you have not been able to vote independently and privately at the polls.  You can either download a PDF file or go to
www.ccfi.us to fill out the form online.

American Association of People With Disabilities Logo National Organization on Disability links to each candidate’s statement on disability issues
American Association of Persons with Disabilities—Campaign 2004 
League of Women Voters—Voter Information  Comprehensive resource for all federal and state elections with links to all candidate web sites with their positions on all issues including disabilities.

Olmstead Implementation - An historic Supreme Court decision, Olmstead vs. LC (1999), encourages states to reevaluate how they deliver publicly funded long-term care services to people with disabilities.

2004 Disability Action Agenda - The New York State Independent Living Council (NYSILC) Public Policy Committee recommends the following priority goals and actions for the 2004 Disability Action Agenda.
